A Saturday in the City of Roses

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Saturdays come and Saturdays go…… but the City of Roses makes every weekend special. As there are many great road trips south from the Seattle metro area, the straight line down I-5 to Portland is not one of those drives. So what to do when taking a smooth drive south, on the interstate? Well, the first thing you should do is grab a good cup of coffee, make sure you have one or two CDs or a couple good radio stations to add to the road conversations. And you know what, a brief stop at the I-5 rest stop for some free coffee and to recycle some coffee is just fine too.

Rose City Saturday Market!

If you aren’t a regular visitor to Portland trying to get around and navigating all of the bridges is not the easiest thing to do, especially when there is a lot of road maintenance. After a 30 or few minutes and a U-turn on a bridge the Dr. Babe and THG made it to the Portland Saturday Market and needless to say it was well worth the drive.

There are sensory cues that trigger memory. Smells, tastes, sunglasses, music and sunshine mix together to make a memorable day. To dispense with the histrionics, there was great inexpensive food, friendly vendors, cool people and draft beer at the Portland Saturday Market. Fresh tacos, pupusas, Rogue IPAs and a chocolate Lab that looked surprisingly like “Mr.Freedom” only worked to make the day funny, humorous, flavorful and walkable….yeah man, you can walk all around Portland, OR…… I mean where do you live? Florida!!!

Okay, I kid, I kid….
