Mile high BBQ

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

While in The Mile High city of Denver, THG decided to take a look around to find out what food is most well known in this town. The interweb and the local newspaper provided some good culinary insights I decided to look on my own, talk to some locals and consult some food experts. Fortunately, one of the food experts THG talked to recommended a “hole in the wall BBQ place” that would fit my needs.

It is almost impossible to not love a place that is solely run by one person. Usually, it appears to be the case that some of the best doughnuts, drinks, subs, sandwiches and seafood are served at locations run by a single person. Once again “the one person food” theory of food excellence held true. I was not disappointed to have some truly great BBQ! Being in traveling mode a person is allowed to “let themselves go” a little, in the hope of “getting it together” once they get to their destination. With that is mind two sandwiches were sampled while at Wolfe’s BBQ. The smothered chopped beef brisket was spicy, sweet and succulent and served on a whole wheat  hoogie roll. The other sandwich tried was the smoked pork sandwich. Of the two, I’ll have to go with the smoked pork. The service was friendly and as fast as a one-man show could be. And on a personal note Mr. Wolfe wished us well on our travels to the Pacific Northwest, which is nice. But don’t forget this place was absolutely awesome, and if you’re in Denver make a stop to visit the Wolfe.
